Julia Thomson is a mixed media artist and educator living in Philadelphia, PA. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute in 2015. Her work has been exhibited both locally and internationally in galleries and museums.

Her artwork is inspired by the natural world. She blends realism, abstraction, and surrealism--blurring the line between reality and dreams. She’s been making art for as long as she can remember—always experimenting, always playing. Over time, it’s become a way to slow down, find focus, and make sense of the world; it helps her hold on to a sense of curiosity and to the bits of magic that are easy to overlook.

As an instructor, she works one-on-one with people who are new to art or returning to it after time away—many of whom are neurodivergent or have felt disconnected from their creativity. Her teaching focuses on creating a gentle, intuitive space where students can explore without pressure or perfection. She believes that making art isn’t about getting it “right,” but about finding your voice and honoring the impulse to create.
